January notes

I didn’t blog in January-not about Christmas, not even about my birthday. So maybe just a quick recap, a photo digest, so to speak.

We had such a nice Christmas…at our daughter’s home. The weather was beautiful for travel, and speaking of beautiful, look at this table – so warm and inviting – and the menu was just as impressive. It was a wonderful dinner starting with a cheese, meats, and cracker spread, followed by home made tortellini in broth, grilled fillets, salad, artichoke hearts, … and in addition to my Italian cookie assortment a beautiful chocolate peppermint cake for dessert.

Her table all set for Christmas with the plaid plates and runner, the napkins and napkins rings, the touch of greens, all just lovely

Plus we got to enjoy the grandchildren, and I couldn’t resist a fun gift for them in addition to the expected pajamas. Yup! A Christmas Vacation saucer sled!

Notice the brand – Griswold! . I was checking out at one of my favorite stores, Marshalls, and there under one of the Men’s Department tables was a stack of sleds.

All in all, a perfect Christmas!

We usually try to take a road trip to visit as many of our children as is reasonably possible during the holidays. Unfortunately with John’s schedule, it was not possible during that time. Hopefully soon.

We did get to another of the in-state children’s homes, delivered another sled and had a wonderful dinner and visit with the kids. It wasn’t right on Christmas but close. It was a few weeks later closer to her birthday that we met our daughter to celebrate her birthday and send along the still-to-be-delivered gifts to her boys. Unfortunately, we forgot their sled, and it is still sitting in our garage while all the snow is outside. But she sent us little videos of the boys opening their gifts which was fun. It is definitely better to give than to receive! Although receiving all the generosity from our children is certainly heartwarming and appreciated.
