Copper and More Copper

It started with a “copper” canister set given to me as a birthday gift. Our favorite younger son found them at the hardware store where he was employed at his first official job. I loved them because they were a gift from DJ, but also because they reminded me of the canister set my mother had when I was growing up. While our oldest daughter was in a high school art class, she created the framed pressed copper artwork, so that also is special. She hasn’t requested it yet, but it may be something one of her children will claim. The cute little scalloped butter dish was part of a set of 13 items I came upon at Angela’s Attic while searching for specific porcelain knobs to match or coordinate with those I already had. They were for a newly found piece of furniture I found at Salvation Army. That piece will be the subject of another blog post soon. If you are ever looking for vintage hardware, be sure to check out Angela’s Attic in South Beloit. I found the knobs, and also the copper goodies.

There were stainless copper tone pots with lids, a skillet with a lid, which I already ruined when I forgot about it as I was preheating it. The larger copper pot above will be our compost pot, for fruit and veggie trimmings, egg shells, and coffee grounds, everything destined for the compost pile. There was also a copper casserole holder, a copper trivet, a pot hanging strip, and one random copper lid.

Random copper lid

And that random copper lid? It fit perfectly on our most often used, small, no lid, stainless skillet. Stainless and copper, a pretty nice combo. Don’t we all love those simple little surprises that make us smile?

Copper Love it or Hate it

At this point, I am really loving it. But when I mentioned it to a friend, she said she hated copper. Apparently she grew up with it all over the kitchen and perhaps, (we’re guessing here), it included copper jello molds on the soffits. I actually have one of those now. It came in the lot of 13 pieces. The extra pieces are in one of the large bottom drawers of that new piece of furniture I found. Copper is warm and cheery, and that is especially welcome as we approach the colder, darker days of late fall and winter. Stay safe, and warm, and enjoy the little things.
